Just One of Those Days
By: Sean Baskin

Well, it started off pretty boring. After spending an hour or two finshing up an annoying science fair project, I was ready to go to the park and street skating, and that's when it all started...

When I got to the park, I had planned on warming up and then going to hit this 10 stair rail with Shawn, things changed a bit. We all skated a while, mabye about 45 minutes, then we were ready to go, but Cale was waiting for his dad to come bring his new deck. So, after skating out in the Cricket Pavilion with Tyler for about 45-50 minutes, Cale's dad got there and he changed his trucks, etc., and then we left.

We went straight to TVA, to hit the imfamous "Monster Gap". After about 10-15 minutes or so, Shawn and I did it. It's not an oridnary gap either, you have to clear two things. A planter thing, and a hefty drop. After that, Cale and Tyler left, so remaining was myself (Sean), Shawn, and Scott. The three of us ventured out with some vauge directions from Cale on how to get to the 10 set/rail at the UTC Dorms. By now, it was semi-dark, and we were growing skeptical of whether or not we would find it. By the time we got near it, we had evaded two UTC Police. So, we got to the 10 stair, too dark to skate it, but Shawn and I still looked at it. Then we finally decided, that we were going to try, we saw the same two UTC cops pass by, and we waited for them to pass, and we ran. We stopped at the Food Court for a brief "dinner". We got the last 3 slices of pizza, and the lady was very kind, and gave us some cookies free.

About 20 minutes laters, we arrived at the park. We all sat inside and talked a while since Rob said he was going to close at 8. Well, we wanted to go skate it, so about ten til eight, we started doing stuff over the little bank, just kickflips, 180's, simple stuff. Then, out of no where, Shawn comes up and b/s flips it 1st try. We all just looked at him, he came back up, dropped back in, then f/s flipped it 1st try. That got us all hyped up, and I 360 flipped it, Cameron was pulling out mad kickflips, and thats just for starters. We all started trying things over it, nollie 360 flips, switch stuff, and thats just naming some.

After a lot of the crew had left, Rob, Chris, Shawn, Cameron, Cale, and myself, along with some random little kids, were still there. Shawn, Cameron, and myself, all hyped up, walked and jumped up onto the sub box. Now, the sub-box to flat is about a 6-7ft drop (mabye higher). It's pretty f***ing big, with about 5ft run up room. Well, Cameron stoped trying after a while, but Shawn and I kept going. We never truely "landed" it, but we'd land, and either our ankles woud give, or just the fact your going so slow and such a drop, we'd just fall forward. After we stopped doing that, Shawn pulled the barrier out about four feet from the 4ft qrt. drop. He ollied it, no problem. Then, he busted out the cleanest f/s and b/s 180's over it, 2nd try both, and HUGE!

Then, after everyone was still a bit hyped, I was trying to noseblunt the bench (which is about 2 1/2 tall). I would slide it, and just stop. I waxed it, and it stil happened. Also, Cameron was trying to kickflip over it. On his last two tries, he got over it and landed with one foot. It was crazy! Then, we just went inside, freezing, and sat down behind the counter, and talked about various things. Older pros, videos, stuff like that.

Around 9:45, my mom picked me up. Got home about 10:20, and then my night was over. None of the really crazy stuff was filmed, due to wrong timing and battery dieing, but I did manage to get some stuff. Over all, this was one of those days you just "had to be there".
