Skate Spot Review:
The Mississauga Skatepark
By: Mike | Monday, August 4th, 2003

Completed in August of 2003, the Mississauga Skatepark is an excellent example of what can be created with a bit of time and a budget of $350,000. Located at Iceland Arena (Matheson & Kennedy) it is only 15 minutes from Pearson Airport. On arrival you will be quick to notice that there are no fences around the skatepark. No fences means no fee and no limited hours. Another great feature is the rules, or lack there of. No rules on helmets or pads, just show up and skate.

The park is split into three levels. There is the upper level which is the added bowl. The next level wraps around the lower level and has loads of ledges and handrails. Then you get to the lowest level which has some big funboxes, quarterpipes, a manual pad, and flat banks.

The skatepark is well constructed. It is made of cement which has a smooth finish on top. This makes for a very fast and not an overly tiring session. The handrails are thick metal and are very sturdy. There is also a Triton barrier on one of the funboxes. The only downside to the park is how slippery the cement is when it gets wet. But, you won't have to worry about that too often because the park has a well setup drainage system in all of the lowest spots in the park.

Overall the park turned out better than expected with the limited amount of space that it was being built in. Right now, money is being raised to fund the addition of lighting for the park. There are parking lot lights but they don't cover the entire park. If you wish to help the cause, go to Full Tilt Board Shop in Streetsville.
