This tutorial will
teach you how to create an N-D effect on your images in photoshop.
The ND effect will help to give the clouds in your photos a
bit more pop to them and make them stand out. Not all images
will be suitable for this technique, but it is always worth
a try.
Step 1:: Open your image in Adobe Photoshop.
Step 2:: Locate the Gradient Overlay in the
Layers palette by clicking the F.

Step 3:: While in the Gradient Overlay, change
the Blend Mode to Overlay. Now you might need to click on the
"Reverse" box next to the gradient. It depends how
photoshop is setup.
Step 4:: Click once on the gradient that is
in the drop down box. The gradient editor will pop up and allow
you to add and adjust sliders. On the right hand side, you want
the bottom portion of the image to remain it's original color
so select something like #666666 for the farthest right slider.
On the farthest left slider, something like #333333 is desired,
maybe even black depending on the picture itself. Click just
underneath the gradient box to add additional sliders. Look
at my example for what I did in the photo. It is easy to understand
once you see it in effect.

Step 5:: Press OK in the Gradient Editor, then
press OK in the Gradient Overlay box and save your image. Here
is the before and after from my image.
